Gauge or Absolute Pressure?

Gauge pressure is measured against the surrounding air and absolute pressure against a vacuum. This page converts pressure units; it does not convert between the two references, so a gauge reading stays a gauge reading and an absolute reading stays absolute.

• A gauge reading and an absolute reading of the same pressure differ by the air pressure around the gauge. This page converts the unit and keeps the reference you started with.
• A bar and a standard atmosphere are close but not equal, so swapping one for the other adds a small error.
• The pound in psi is a pound-force, a force spread over a square inch, not a pound of mass.
