A newton metre turns up in two places. A force applied along a distance is energy; a force applied at a distance from an axis is torque. The unit is written the same way and the two quantities are not interchangeable, so this page converts torque into torque only.

• A newton metre of torque and a joule of energy share a unit and are still different quantities, so this page refuses to turn one into the other.
• The kilogram-force metre uses standard gravity, so its factor is fixed and does not change with location.
